The Cuero Record
Cuero High School graduate Jason Gonzales led Texas A&M-Kingsville’s baseball team to the school’s first appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series. In his 10 seasons at the helm of Javelina baseball, they have won two Lone Star Conference championships, advanced to four NCAA South Central Regionals and reached the regional championship game three times, winning for the first time this year to advance to the NCAA Division II World Series in Cary, North Carolina.
Gonzales’ Javelinas also picked up the school’s first win at the World Series, a 9-0 decision over Mercyhurst in game two. The double elimination tournament came to a close for Kingsville May 30 with a 8-0 loss to top-seeded Florida Southern loss after having lost their opening game to UC-San Diego. Nonetheless, it was a season for the record book and one Gonzales will always cherish.
