Kitty Kats defeat Lady Marlins

The Yorktown Kitty Kats only had one district game last week and made the most of it, as they hosted the Port Aransas Lady Marlins. The Lady Marlins came into the game ranked #14 in the TABC Class 2A State Polls and 4-0 in district play.

The Kitty Kats jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, as senior Seely Metting accounted for all eight Yorktown points. Port Aransas used two three-pointers and an old-fashioned three-point play to take a 9-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second period, the Lady Marlins controlled the tempo of the game and led 16-14 with 37 seconds left. However, Yorktown changed the entire complexion of the game, as the Kitty Kats scored seven points in the final 30 seconds. Metting took a rebound and threw a length of the floor pass to junior Ayana Longoria for a layup. After forcing a Port Aransas turnover, Metting scored a layup on an out-of-bounds play. Then, after a stop on defense, Metting hit a three-pointer, well beyond the three-point line, at the buzzer and Yorktown led 21-16 at halftime.

Metting started the second half with another three-pointer to extend the Yorktown lead to eight at 24-16. In the third quarter, Metting would score 13 points and the Kitty Kats would extend their lead to 36-26 at the end of the period.
