Lady Gobblers drop match to county rival

Even in defeat, Cuero displayed one of their better performances of the season, as they rounded out non-district against their rivals from Yoakum. Five hard fought sets ended with a Lady Bulldog victory (26-28, 27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 8-15), but the Lady Gobblers may have gained more with a loss than a win that night with district up next.
“Honestly, I’m just so proud of them,” coach Whitney Coles said. “We didn’t play very well in set number five. We played too inside of ourselves instead of playing for each other.”
The first four sets were back and forth, but a string of miscues in the final set proved to be too much for Cuero to overcome.
“In the other four sets, it was so apparent that they wanted it,” Coles said. “They clawed and fought, even coming from behind in set two. Set three, we’re behind and make it close at the end. They showed so much heart and fight. That’s great going into district. That’s what we needed to see.”
