Despite the graduation of significant pieces from last season’s district champion Lady Gobbler basketball team, athleticism still abounds for Cuero. They opened their 2017-18 campaign Tuesday, Nov. 14 with a non-district victory over Goliad, 39-19.

“First of all, I’m happy with the win and how we started the season,” head coach Amy Crain said. “I’m glad for the girls, because I know they’ve been working hard.”

There are many new faces on this year’s team with only four returners from last season: Katie Crain, Wynter Taylor, Summer Gamez and Grace Andrews.

“We had some wrinkles, but overall I was pleased with the way they handled what we asked them to do offensively and defensively and with the effort,” Crain noted. I got to see some different combinations. It made me excited and looking forward to the future.”
