Medals may not have been earned at this year’s UIL State Track & Field Meet for Cuero, but there were still accomplishments to be found. Regan Dunn closed her high school track career with Cuero’s first girls relay at state in the last five years, while her freshmen teammates (Mackenzie Blain, Ibree Coe, Loren Washington) were able to reach the pinnacle of Texas high school track in their first season.
On the boys side, seniors Claevon Patton and Jared Love reached Austin for the first time as individuals with Love setting a personal record in the 300 meter hurdles.
“I cannot say how proud I am of them,” head girls track coach Whitney Coles said. “They were so relaxed all day yesterday, all day today and just ready, and you don’t expect that from three freshmen. I think that’s because they fed off of Regan’s energy and just being a great leader. We had the perfect mixture of personality and talent. It was a fun experience. The girls loved it. I loved it. It was awesome.”
