Standing out in the heat

Scorching heat and minimal wind tried to dictate play at the 2017 Division II Texas 7on7 Championships, but Cuero was up to the challenge. Cuero opened the tournament with five straight wins and winning Pool M before losing to Navasota, 45-7, in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. Despite the defeat, Cuero made tremendous strides throughout the two-day tournament.
“I’m extremely proud of our kids,” Cuero head football coach Travis Reeve said following the competition. “They had a great weekend, and the best thing I think we’re gonna take away from this is we learned a lot about ourself. I think we saw a lot of the things that we’ve been talking about throughout off-season and our strength and condition come to fruition in that when you start to get tired and it’s hot and things are tough, you have two choices: time and time again our kids chose to rally around each other and play with great energy, and it showed in a lot of great performances against a lot of good teams from all across the state of Texas.”
