On Tuesday, March 6, Yorktown Wildcat Jayden Webb signed with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to play Strong Safety for the UMHB Crusaders football team.

Webb, Yorktown’s quarterback and free safety during this year’s playoff run, plans to major in biology with hopes of pursuing a career as a Physician’s Assistant. Webb currrently stands 6’4” and weighs in around 195 lbs, which could make him one of the tallest players on the UMHB team, and perhaps the biggest Safety overall. Statistically, Webb’s performance this year was on-par with if not exceeding that of the UMHB current starters in the position. Webb finished the year with 44 total tackles and one sack.

UMHB went 14-1 last year, and as Coach Caffey described them, were “one of the premier Division 3 teams in the nation.”

“We all looked at a lot of schools, and this was the best fit for Jayden. He has great speed and athleticism,” stated Caffey. “He’s an asset to any program.”

Webb said the coaches contacted him and stated that they “loved the film” of his on-field ability. When asked if there was any advice he would like to offer the upcoming teams in Yorktown, he had little hesitation in what that advice would be.

“Don’t let the small town mentality hold you down,” advised Webb.

The UMHB Crusaders were the 2016 Division 3 National Champions, and came up just short in the championship game again in 2017. In the past 14 years, UMHB has made three appearances in the championship game, winning one.

We would like to wish Jayden the best in his academic and athletic pursuits, and look forward to following his career at UMHB.
