Yorktown faces Agua Dulce Friday
The Yorktown Wildcats will be traveling on Friday, Sept. 25 for their district opener against the Agua Dulce Longhorns. This will be the seventh time in history these two teams have been scheduled against one another. The series is currently tied 3-3. The Wildcats have won the last three times they have faced each other. Most recently in 2020, they defeated the maroon and white longhorns in a shutout, 55-0.
The Agua Dulce Longhorns are returning six offensive and six defensive starters off of last year’s team that went 1-5 in district play. Players to watch include WR/LB Donald Mann, WR/LB Eduardo Hernandez, and WR/DB Nathan Leiha. The Longhorns are currently 0-3 having lost preseason games against Premont, Ben Bolt, and Banquette.
The Yorktown Wildcats are 2-2 in non-district play, having picked up wins against Weimar and Brentwood. The Yorktown squad will rely heavily on Kalen Barefield who is leading the area in receiving yards and Drew Alexander who is topping the area in passing yards. Other players to watch for include Gabe Latta, the Wildcat’s leading rusher, and Jacob Guerrero, who is leading the Wildcats in tackles.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Agua Dulce.
